Network Topology

Kinds of Network Topology are,

1. Mesh Topology
Mesh topology is a form of connection between devices where each device is connected directly to other devices on the network. As a result, each device of mesh topology can communicate directly with the target device (dedicated links).

Mesh Topology Characteristics:

1. Mesh topology has redundant connections between existing equipment.
2. Arrangement at any existing equipment in the network are connected to each other.
3. If the number of devices connected very much, of course it will be very difficult to control compared to only a few devices are connected.

Mesh Topology Advantages

1. The main advantage of using mesh topology is fault tolerance.
2. Ensuring the communication channel capacity, because it has excess connections.
3. Relatively easy to do troubleshoot.

Disadvantages Mesh Topology:

1. The difficulty at the time of installation and reconfiguration when the number of computers and devices connected in increasing numbers.
2. Costs to maintain a surplus.

2. Star Topology

The star topology is often called. Examples of tools in use here is the hub, switch, etc.

Star Topology Characteristics:

1. Each node communicates directly with the concentrator (HUB).
2. If each packet of data that goes into consentrator (HUB) then broadcast throughout very much connected nodes (eg using 32 port hub), then the performance of the network will be down.
3. Very easy dikembangka.
4. If one ethernet card is broken, or one of the wires on the terminal end, then keseluruhhan network can still communicate or does not happen down the entire network was.
5. Type of cable used is usually the type of UTP.

Star Topology Advantages

1. Pretty easy to change and add computers to the network using a star topology without disrupting ongoing network aktvitas.
2. If a computer were damaged in the network, the computer is not going to make the whole network star dies.
3. We can use some type of wiring in the same network with a hub that can accommodate different cable types.

Disadvantages Topology Star:

1. Having a single point of error, lies in hub.Jika central hub fails, the entire network will fail to operate.
2. Need more cable because all network cables to be pulled to one central point, so more need more cable than other network topologies.
3. The number of terminals is limited, depending on the existing ports on the hub.
4. Heavy data traffic may cause the network to work more slowly.

3. Ring Topology

Ring topology is used in networks that have high performance, network bandwidth for time-sensitive features such as video and audio, or when performance is needed when the computer is connected to the network in large numbers.

Ring Topology Characteristics:

1. Nodes are connected in series along the cable, the network forms like circles.
2. Very simple in layout like the kind of bus topology.
3. Data packets can flow in one direction (left or right) so that collisions can be avoided.
4. Faced the same problem with the bus topology, ie: if one node is damaged then the whole node can not communicate with the network.
5. Type of cable used is usually cable or UTP Patch Cable (IBM type 6).

Ring Topology Advantages:

1. Data flow in one direction so that the collision can be avoided.
2. Data streams flow faster because it can serve data from the left or right of the server.
3. Can serve the traffic flow data intensive, because data can be moved left or right.
4. Time to access data more optimally.

Disadvantages Ring Topology:

1. If there is one computer in the ring fails to function, it will affect the entire network.
2. Increases or decreases the computer will disrupt the network.
3. It is difficult to reconfigure.

4.  Bus Topology

This topology is the initial topology used to connect computers. In this topology each computer is connected to a long cable with multiple terminals, and at the end of the Kable must end with a terminator. This topology is very rarely used in building a network of ordinary computers because it has some drawbacks such as the possibility of its collision data stream, if one device is broken or there is damage to one part of the computer networking company will not work until the damage is overcome. Topology was originally used as a medium of instruction Coaxial kable data and information. But at this point topology in building a computer network using a cabal optical fiber (fiber optic), but combined with other network topology to maximize performance.

 BUS Topology Characteristics:

1. Node - nodes are connected in series along the cable, and on both ends of the cable covered with a terminator.2. Very simple to install.3. Very economical in cost.4. Data packets intersect each other at a cable.5. Not required hub, which many diperlukanadalah Tconnector on each ethernet card.6. The problem that often occurs is if one node is damaged, then the whole network can be down, so that all nodes can not communicate in the network.

BUS Topology Advantages:

1. Simple topology.2. The cable used to connect a few computers or other equipment.3. It costs less than other wiring arrangement.4. Easy enough if we want to expand the network to the bus topology.

Disadvantages Topology BUS:

1. Traffic (traffic), which will greatly slow crowded buses.2. Each barrel connector that is used as the link weakens the electrical signal is sent, and most will block the signal to be received correctly.3. It is very difficult to troubleshoot on the bus.4. Slower compared to the other topologies.

5. Tree Topology

Network Topology Tree (Tree) network topology is also called multilevel network topology. This topology is commonly used for interconnection of central with a different hierarchy. For the lower hierarchy depicted on the location of low and getting higher up the hierarchy have. This type of network topology is used in the computer network system. The network tree, there are several levels of nodes (node). Central or higher level node, another node can set a lower level. Data sent through the central node needs first. For example, to move from computer to kekomputer node node-3-7 as well as in the figure, the data must pass through node-3, 5 and node-6 before ending at the node-7. Keungguluan network model tree as it is, may be the formation of a group is needed at all times. For example, companies can form a group consisting of terminal bookkeeping, as well as the other groups formed for the sales terminal. The drawback is, if the node is higher then not working, then other groups that are below it eventually becomes ineffective. The workings of a tree network is relatively slow.
